Out of the Nest

and into the World
THE NEST

Hi, I'm Sue or Ms. Orton to many a young fledgling.  Welcome to THE NEST, my new happy place as a writer of children's books.  Here we will share stories, old and new, that celebrate children and support them as they grow before they go out into the world.  THE NEST will also be a place for new ideas and stories to hatch.  Get ready!  This will be fun!

Over my many years as a principal and teacher, what I taught all my little fledglings will never equate to what they taught me.  If you ever feel the need for more balance in your life - take the time to help a child.  They will end up helping you threefold just by sharing with you their clear perspective on life, love, friendship and what is truly good in this world.

Isn't it interesting that you see this clear and defined perspective in the eyes of a child and many times in the wisdom of an older person who has kept their vision of life unclouded?  Maybe that's our test in life.  Realize the beauty and truth at a young age and hold onto it.  Let it blossom and overflow into our actions as adults.

For many years my own nest in San Diego, California, has been warmed by the love of my husband, Bruce, and our two daughters, Allie and Kimmie.  They are my constant, my light, continually supporting me to live an authentic life of learning, sharing and serving others.

"You have to write the book that wants to be written.  And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you must write it for children."  - Madeline L'Engle
